The Gunfighters

The TARDIS materialises in Tombstone in October 1881

The Doctor goes in search of a dentist, only to discover that the man about to pull his tooth is none other than the notorious Doc Holliday. Meanwhile Steven masquerades as ‘dead shot Steve’ and faces a lynching. Events unfold between the Clanton family and Wyatt Earp leading inevitably to the gun fight at the OK corral.

Story background: 1966, written by Donald Cotton, produced by Innes Lloyd. Notable for: The Ballad of the Last Chance Saloon which features prominently throughout the story is sung by Linda Baron, who would become better known as buxom Nurse Gladys Emmanuel in Ronnie Barker’s sitcom Open All Hours. She would return to Doctor Who in 1983 as Captain Wrack in the story Enlightenment. The Gunfighters was the last story to feature individual episode titles until the series was relaunched in 2005.
