Liz meanwhile is feeling the need to return to Cambridge but is delayed when a reporter feeds her some intriguing information about dark dealings within a secretive Government department. Whilst at UNIT, the Brigadier worries about financial cut backs and his faltering marriage.

When the strands come together the Doctor discovers the alien threats that have menaced Earth in recent years have a technological bonus for a race that thrives on self destruction.

Story background: A Virgin book by Gary Russell published in 1996 and re-issued as an E-book by the BBC in 2004. Notable for: Liz Shaw leaves UNIT and returns to her career in research at Cambridge.
