The Three Doctors

A black hole is threatening the Time Lords

Meanwhile on Earth a research balloon has brought back a blob of animated energy which dematerialises things on contact. The Doctor, Jo and Sergeant Benton are besieged within the TARDIS.

The Time Lords know the events are connected but they are powerless to help either themselves or the Doctor. Summoning all the power they can they lift previous incarnations of the Doctor out of their time streams and unite them to help each other and find a solution.

The three Doctors allow the energy blob to attack the TARDIS, transporting it to a world of anti-matter beyond the black hole. There they discover that Omega, a bitter solar engineer who gave his race the ability to time travel but in process became trapped for thousands of years, is looking for someone to take his place and give him back his freedom.

Story background: 1972/73. Written by Bob Baker and Dave Martin, produced by Barry Letts. Notable for: The Tenth anniversary year for Doctor Who brought together the three actors who had breathed life into the role. William Hartnell’s appearances are brief but priceless as he puts his successors in their place.
